When Grief Comes to School

When Grief Comes to School Program Donation

For the second year in a row, two local credit unions have joined efforts to match donations in support of Hospice of St. Lawrence Valleys, “When Grief Comes to School Program.”

“We recognize the vital work Hospice of St. Lawrence Valley does each and every day, especially when it comes to its “When Grief Comes to School” program, which is available on a moments notice to help assist students and staff when there is a death in school, ease the pain and suffering of the youth of our North Country schools,” said a joint statement released by Scott A. Wilson, President & Chief Executive Officer, SeaComm and Todd Mashaw, President & Chief Executive Officer, St. Lawrence Federal. “Our financial support is a small way in which we can assist in this unfortunate, but important mission.”

Mary Jones, Director of Family Support Services, described when grief comes to school program as, “a pivotal program that offers support to schools after the death of a student or staff member. The primary goal is to cultivate healthy grievers through educating all about the grief process and introducing strategies to adapt to the death. Support from community businesses and individuals provides coping tools and program development, for this program.”

“Stephen House has been a major driving force in coordinating this donation, leading the communication and advocacy efforts responsible for funding of the program. We cannot thank Steve and his family, SeaComm and St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union enough for their long-time support of Hospice, said Zachary Monroe, Director of Development and Community Relations. In honor and memory of their Son, Christian House, Steve, and his family have worked for the last decade, supporting with both personal donations, and advocating in the community, for programs dedicated to providing grief services to youth.
